In almost all of Germany, the last day of the year is called Silvester, for this day is the feast day of St. Sylvester. Just like in Germany, the Donauschwaben Society of Cincinnati celebrates this evening with great fanfare.

On New Year's Eve, the dance begins at 9 o'clock, and the band of the evening plays until midnight. At midnight, the new year is rung in with the playing of the traditional song "Auld Lang Syne" as well as the setting off of mini-fireworks (which, according to the old custom, brings good luck by frightening off witches).

Year in, year out, the festivity lasts into the wee hours of the morning. At the Donauschwaben House, in the company of friends and countrymen, is the perfect place to celebrate the new year.
